Buyers of Volkswagen’s latest electric vehicle, the e-Up!, can now purchase an electricity package from Ecotricity that gets customers 1,000 miles of free electricity produced from renewable energy sources.
Customers opting for the Ecotricity package will also receive a free smart meter for their home, which helps electric vehicle owners monitor their energy usage and access Ecotricity’s national network of charging points.
Dale Vince, founder of Ecotricity, said: “Ecotricity’s new tariff ensures customers with electric cars are recharging at home with green energy and, as a bonus, they’ll get 1,000 free miles worth of electricity. And when away from home, drivers of electric cars will also have access to the Electric Highway, so when you’re out and about you can still drive with zero emissions.”
The Volkswagen e-Up! is priced at £19,250 after the £2,500 government grant in the UK. The electric Up! has all of the features of the top of the line VW High Up! including a heated windscreen, air conditioning, heated front seats, and Volkswagen’s satellite navigation system.
