Volkswagen has announced plans to introduce a program where owners of the e-Up! electric city car can use a petrol-powered vehicle for longer journeys. Currently, it's only available in Germany under the 'Supplementary mobility package'.

The idea is that too many people are burdened with range anxiety to purchase a fully-electric vehicle, and with the ability to use a petrol vehicle for longer journeys or to transport large items for free for up to 30 days a year.

Quote:
Currently available to new and current e-up! owners, buyers have up to three years after the purchase of the car to take up the offer. VW won’t charge customers a fee for the service but there is an undisclosed mileage limit before charges occur.

There's a good chance the supplemental mobility package will be available in the UK as well, at least we hope so!
