The VW electric Up! comes standard with a 3-year / 60,000 mile warranty, as well as a 12 year body protection warranty, a 3-year paintwork warranty, and an 8-year battery warranty.
When configuring the e-Up on Volkswagen's site, there is a 4 year extended warranty option and a 5 year extended warranty option.
4-year extended warranty
This covers up to four years or 75,000 miles, whichever comes soonest. The cover includes a two-year unlimited mileage warranty and up to 75,000 miles in the third and fourth years.
5-year extended warranty
This covers up to five years or 90,000 miles, whichever comes soonest. The cover includes a two-year unlimited mileage warranty and up to 90,000 miles in the third, fourth and fifth years.
What are your thoughts on buying the extended warranty? If the battery has an 8 year warranty, what would the 4 or 5 year extended warranty really cover? Drivetrain components that are not part of the body protection/paintwork/battery warranties?

I, too, am confused by that offer. It's almost like that is a standard Volkswagen warranty extension offer, and doesn't specifically apply to Volkswagen's electric vehicles?
The battery is my main concern, and that is already an 8 year warranty. The battery pack is one of the reasons why the Renault Zoe decided to lease the pack instead of sell it, they weren't sure how long it would last.
